Recycling Your Battery

Although some types of batteries are more recyclable than others, most batteries make good candidates for recycling. Recycling processes vary from city to city, but typical procedures call for the battery to be broken down and the parts separated accordingly.

Lead-acid batteries contain both lead and an acid electrolyte, both of which should be kept out of the common waste stream. Because of the toxicity of these components, many cities offer battery recycling services. When replacing your old car battery, many automotive stores offer free disposal of your old car battery.

We never suggest throwing out your old car battery, or any battery, out with daily trash. Please consult with your city for the best way to dispose of your battery. Batteries contain chemicals that should be handled and disposed of with caution.
